In my personal life there have been difficult issues to overcome. There have been a great many tears behind my smile as highlighted on my Home page. I have tried to carry on and lead a happy, normal, fulfilling life, and my partner helps me navigate through it. One of my priorities is to raise greater complex Disability awareness.

I try to keep myself occupied despite my developing MS. I have a wide range of interests including Stock, Aitken and Waterman music (e.g. Sonia, Sinitta etc), and over the last few years since the pandemic (or “The Bad Bug” as I nicknamed it) I’ve enjoyed raising money for various charities such as London Zoo, ChildLine, and the local Hospitals; I’ve donated to foodbanks and toy collections; and I’ve kept my mind stimulated with trips to the local theatre and cinema. I also like to watch Ginny Buckley who is a freelance motoring journalist, and Hayley Hassall, a presenter and reporter on the BBC and ITV. I also keep myself busy at home through my Social Media with Facebook and X (formally Twitter) and this website.

Here are two interviews I did and submitted to DJ Jon for his consideration. He was able to include them on his shows – The Sunny Sessions – and both soundtracks have since been broadcast.

The big change for me is my radio “career”. I have always liked to raise awareness for disability issues and I’ve always had an ambition to be a journalist. So when I was asked would I be interested in starting a monthly newspaper review for a radio show called “Sunny Sessions” I said yes. I was absolutely delighted when it went very well and was well received by lots of different people. I chose various music to go with the newspaper review and I loved it. Unfortunately the newspaper review didn’t carry on due to circumstances beyond my control. Now-a-days as a regular listener both to Radio Woking and Dorset Riviera Radio I feel optimistic that I can choose some music to be played on the radio. I’m doing my “Postcard from Bournemouth” which is where I choose a song and say why I like it or chose that particular song. I also do “Lydia’s Lyrical Lovelies”, a name that fits perfectly. Again it’s a song choice and why I chose it. The “postcard” is broadcast twice weekly on Radio Woking while the “Lyrical Lovelies” is once a week on Dorset Riviera Radio. Both these things have helped my confidence and I have interviewed some amazing people. I’m happy being me on the Community Radio but would not want to be too scripted to do a radio broadcast like some do. I’d rather be myself, chose what I believe fits, and also be lead by people known in the industry For example Radio Woking, Dorset Riviera Radio & journalist Rob McLoughlin who, I believe are the best of the best.
